About Researcher

Dr. Destina holds a doctoral degree from the University of Canberra, Australia majoring mathematics education. Her doctoral research examines the relationship between spatial ability and mathematics performance of 8th grade students in Indonesia and whether spatializing school mathematics could enhance students’ mathematics performance. Her research interest has been built gradually from mathematical modelling (S1&S2) then focusing more into school mathematics particularly in geometry (S2) and more specific into the area of spatial thinking (S3) and then connect them all with STEAM Education.

PROJECT 1

Project Title: Mapping the competency of Indonesian Early Childhood Educators in teaching numeracy

Research Description:

This is collaborative research between Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation – Regional Centre for Early Childhood Education and Parenting (SEAMEO-CECCEP) and STEAM Education unit of CGTE. This research aims to map Indonesian Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers’ competencies in teaching numeracy, identify the discrepancies among Indonesian ECE teachers’ teaching competency and to analyze Indonesian ECE teachers’ knowledge of the numeracy concept for ECE

PROJECT 2

Project Title: Comparative analysis study in the probability unit in the middle-school mathematics textbook.

Research Description:  

This is a collaborative research publication project among Gyeongin National University of Education (GINUE)-Korea, Deakin University, Australia and Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII, Indonesia. This study aims to compare the phase in which the concept of probability is first introduced in the middle school mathematics textbooks in Korea, Australia and Indonesia

PROJECT 3

Project Title: Religion-Based Disaster Mitigation Education

Research Description:

The Inclusive Education Unit and STEAM Education Unit of CGTE collaboratively join research that is part of a larger four-year project (2025–2029) of Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS)-Japan and Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) within the research section of Education and Experiential Learning. The research explores how religious perspectives can contribute to disaster mitigation education and preparedness. It examines how disaster risk reduction can relate to values, knowledge, and practices embedded within religious contexts. In this research we develop e-learning module and provide a training in hazard knowledge and risk reduction management for teachers. This study is expected to contribute to contextually relevant disaster education approaches that strengthen preparedness, resilience, and community participation.

Project Title: From Generation to Judgement: Reframing Generative AI for Pedagogical Meaningful Mathematics Teaching

Research Description:  

This is a collaborative research project among University of Canberra, UIII, UIN Mataram and Universitas PGRI Jombang. This study aims to investigate how pre-service teachers evaluate, adapt, and integrate GenAi into lesson planning to enhance teaching quality, not just efficiency. By examining these practices across diverse context, the study provides an empirical foundation for responsible, evidence-based GenAI use in teacher education and professional development.
