Public Lecture: Identity Formation in the Context of Decolonisation

The Faculty of Education invites you to attend a Public Lecture on “Identity Formation in the Context of Decolonisation” with Prof. Dr. Ina Ter Avest (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam/Inholland University of Applied Sciences, Netherland) and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Kurt (University of Applied Sciences Leiden, Netherland)
The lecture will explore how decolonisation reshapes the way we understand ourselves, religion, and culture within education and show how colonial knowledge systems and values still influence the identities of students, teachers, and societies, and why it is important to critically reflect on the narratives that have long been taken as “normal.” It will also invite us to understand how identity can be rebuilt from local wisdom and marginalized experiences that have been sidelined for generations. The lecture will also highlight how education can become a space for shaping new, more inclusive, critical, and justice‑oriented identities.
