Lunch Talk #55: Navigating Global Education and Local Identity: Reframing The Dynamics of International Schooling in Indonesia

You are invited to join the Lunch Talk #55 at the Faculty of Education, UIII
Diana Trisnawati, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D. (Lecturer at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta) will share about: “Navigating Global Education and Local Identity: Reframing the Dynamics of International Schooling in Indonesia”.
International schooling in Indonesia reflects the increasing demand for globally oriented education while raising important concerns about cultural relevance, unequal access, language hierarchies, and the representation of local identities. In this Lunch Talk Series, Dr. Trisnawati will examine how international curricula and educational practices are interpreted and negotiated within Indonesia’s sociocultural context. The session will highlight how teachers and students navigate global competencies, local knowledge, cultural belonging, and intercultural understanding. It aims to reframe international schooling as a dynamic process of adaptation and negotiation rather than the straightforward transfer of foreign educational models. Ultimately, the discussion advocates a more context-responsive approach that connects global engagement with meaningful participation in Indonesian culture and society.
