Tati Lathipatud Durriyah, Ph.D is the Head of the MA in Education program. Dr. Tati was a Fulbright recipient of a master’s degree at Teachers College, Columbia University, NY, and earned a Ph.D. from the School of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University, OH. Her article published in Reading Horizons was included in the 2021 Annotated Bibliography of Research in the Teaching of English of NCTE. Tati has authored chapters on children’s literature and student teachers’ reading engagement in two books by Rowman & Littlefield, USA. Dr. Tati serves as an external review board in the Journal of Literacy and Language Education (JOLLE) of the University of Georgia and has reviewed articles in several international journal publications. Tati’s expertise in literacy education has been central to the literacy education roadmap at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), especially in devising the conceptualization and development of literacy education (GTK) and literacy access program (Badan Bahasa and Puskurbuk). Her opinion essays on literacy education have been published in Kompas (e.g., Pedagogy menapis misinformasi [Pedagody filters misinformation] and Koran Tempo (“Paradigma Baru Pendidikan literasi”. Prior to UIII, Tati served as a lecturer at the Master of English Education program at Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah dan Keguruan, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia. About research interest: “My research interests revolve around literacy education in teacher education, specifically digital literacy, literature-based literacy education, and children’s literature.”


MA Thesis Defense

 

DEPOK, foe.uiii.ac.id – On July 10, 2023, for the first time, the Faculty of Education conducted a thesis defence intended for the first batch MA students in Education Study Program. This activity is the culmination of the process of learning activities at Faculty of Education, UIII.

The implementation of this thesis defence activities is seen as important to be conducted as one of the student's academic journeys, especially in conducting research as a dedication to knowledge.

Students are required to present their research from the topics they have chosen as their final project. The title of the research carried out by the students consisted of various interesting topics that were suitable with the research interests they were engaged in. In this thesis defence process, each presenter would get a question-and-answer session from competent examiners.

Monday, July 10 2023 there will be a thesis defense for the first batch of the M.A. program. in education faculty of education at the International Islamic University of Indonesia. On Monday, 4 students will be tested, namely:

  1.  Abdou Barrow with a thesis title: “The Role of School Leadership in Improving the Quality of Teaching and Learning: The Case Study of The Gambia’s Basic and Secondary Education
  2. Zulfikar with a thesis title: “Empathy-Based Stories of Bullying at Boarding School: Students’ Perceptions and Expectations”
  3. Supriyono with a thesis title: “Beyond the Dark Side of Charismatic Leadership: Exploring the Critical Thinking and Critical Dialogical Abilities of the ‘Led’ in Countering the Potential Abuse by Islamic Boarding School Leaders”
  4. Mashur with a thesis title “Curriculum Change and Its Impact on Senior High School Students` Learning Outcomes and Teaching and Learning Activities: Teacher Perceptions in Lombok Timur”.

 

The next day, Tuesday, July 11 2023, 3 students will carry out the thesis defense, namely:

  1.  Mariam Ulpah with a thesis title: “Exploring Lecturer’s Perception and Approaches of Critical Thinking Skill in Islamic Higher Education: A Case Study”
  2. Popi Rosepti with a thesis title “Exploring Teacher Empathy in Early Childhood Education: Perceptions, Understanding, and Practices”
  3. Dhian Sintapertiwi with a thesis title: “Principal’s Leadership Styles in Implementing Non-Academic Programs: A Case Study of A Private Senior High School in Indonesia”                                                                                       

                                                 

On Thursday, July 13 2023, 1 student carry out thethesis defense, namely Cut Manda Sari with a thesis title: “Exploring students' perspectives on the benefits and challenges on the adoption of the Internet of Things: A case study in Indonesian University".

 

On Monday, July 17 2023, 2 students carry out the thesis defense, namely:

  1. Fadla Tsania Agustia with a thesis title: “Exploring Principals' Professional Development: A Case Study of Public Madrasahs in Indonesia"
  2. Asep Ropiudin with a thesis title “Exploring the New Literacy Policy in Primary Schools in Indonesia: A Case Study"

On Tuesday, July 18 2023, 1 student carry out the thesis defense, namely Nur Atika with a thesis title: “Investigating Teachers’ Approach to Science Subjects in Indonesian Religious-Based Schools: A Case Study"

 

On Thursday, July 20 2023, 3 students carry out the thesis defense, namely:

  1. Muhammad Numan with a thesis title: “The Single National Curriculum: A Path to Centralized Educational Reforms in Pakistan"
  2. Hazrat Syah Kayen with a thesis title “Providing Access to Education in Rural and Remote Areas: The Community-based Education policy of Afghanistan"
  3. Difa Mahya Zahara with a thesis title: “Gender, Female Principalship, and Student Achievements: A Case Study of a Female Principal Leading an Islamic School"

 

 

On Monday, July 24 2023, 1 student carry out the thesis defense, namely Ririn Karina Nur'aeni with a thesis title: “A Portrait of Multicultural Education in an Indonesian Private School: Perception, Approach, and Implementation"

 

 

On Friday, July 28 2023, 3 students carry out the thesis defense, namely:

  1. M. Syauqi Afiya' R. with a thesis title: “STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTING PHYSICAL VIOLENCE IN ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL: A CASE STUDY"
  2. Dwi Asih Prihatin with a thesis title “Exploring the Head of the Foundation's Leadership Practices in Optimizing Teachers' Performance at Islamic Private School"
  3. Wiwin Windiana with a thesis title: “Self–actualization of Student Activists with Disabilities in College Organizations"

The last thesis defense held on Tuesday, August 1 2023, 2 students carry out the thesis defense, namely:

  1. Md. Efta Khirul Alam. with a thesis title: “Implementation of STEAM Education: A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Bangladesh"
  2. Murni Mupardila with a thesis title “Renegotiating Piety, Identity, and Modernity: Islamic Education System of Salafi Women in Lampung".

In the last session, on August 1 2023, the thesis defence was also attended by the university rector, Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat. On this occasion, he also participated in giving questions to the presenters. Then at the end of the activity he congratulated, especially to all students who had succeeded in presenting their final research assignment. This success was inseparable from the students hard work and also thanks to the guidance of the supervisors and the learning process provided by the lecturers, so that the students were able to demonstrate understanding in the research they carried out.

In closing, the implementation of this thesis defense reflects the students dedication as their contribution to the development of science. The innovations and efforts they have made both in overcoming challenges and also the development of science in education should be appreciated. Thus, it is hoped that students will become individuals who can make a major contribution to their surroundings, especially in education.
