Lunch Talk #53: Safeguarding Children in Educational Research: Beyond Consent and Towards Ethical Practice

You are invited to join the Lunch Talk #53 at the Faculty of Education, UIII
Yanuar Farida Wismayanti S.ST., M.A., Ph.D (Head of the Public Policy Research Centre at Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN)) will share about: “Safeguarding Children in Educational Research: Beyond Consent and Towards Ethical Practice”.
Children’s voices matter in research, and their inclusion is often framed as inherently empowering. Yet such participation also demands careful safeguarding. Through a child rights lens, Dr. Yanti will examine how ensuring children’s rights in research participation is integral to strengthening ethical practice. Safeguarding, in this sense, extends beyond empowerment to encompass protection, agency, and dignity. Do children’s consent meaningfully count? Is it merely procedural, or fundamentally grounded in children’s rights? Is parental or institutional consent sufficient?
Join our lunch talk with Dr. Yanti, Head of the Public Policy Research Centre at Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), whose work focuses on children’s rights and draws on extensive experience conducting research with children, women, and minority groups.
